Prof. Dr. Ekkehard Becker-Eberhard

Prof. Dr. iur. Ekkehard Becker-Eberhard joined Spirit Legal as an attorney-at-law (of counsel) in May 2023. He studied law and political science at the University of Bonn, passing his first state examination in law in 1977.
After completing his legal training and second state examination, he worked as a research assistant at the universities of Cologne and Bonn. He received his doctorate in law in Bonn in 1984. In his dissertation he examined the fundamentals of the reimbursement of costs in the pursuit of civil claims. In 1990, Becker-Eberhard completed his habilitation with a presentation of the claim-based nature of security rights.
He then held visiting professorships at the University of Osnabrück and the University of Freiburg. On 1 April 1992, Prof. Dr. iur. Ekkehard Becker-Eberhard was appointed to the Chair of Civil Law and Civil Procedure at the University of Leipzig.
From 1999 to 2019, he was Executive Director of the Institute of Law for Lawyers at the University of Leipzig. Prof. Dr. iur. Ekkehard Becker-Eberhard has worked as an attorney-at-law since 2019. The main focus of his practice is general civil law, civil procedure and professional law. In particular, he advises academics and freelancers.
Prof. Dr. iur. Ekkehard Becker-Eberhard is a member of the association Leipziger Juristische Gesellschaft e. V. and was its First Chairman until 2022. He is also a member of the German association of teachers of civil procedure.
He has been a passionate motorcyclist for many years.
