IAPP KnowledgeNet Leipzig Webinar: 11.07.23 Women In Privacy
IAPP KNet Chapter Leipzig Webinar: Women In Privacy
Tue, 11. July 2023, 4:00 - 5:00 PM (Europe/Amsterdam)
According to a 2017 poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, it was revealed that 50 percent of women experienced gender-based discrimination in the workplace, whereas only 19 percent of men reported the same. The disparity was even greater among women with postgraduate degrees (62%), those working in computer-related fields (74%), or in predominantly male-dominated work environments (78%). Considering this grim backdrop, it is encouraging to note that the privacy profession might serve as an exception, as suggested by a report from the IAPP. The numbers indicate that women and men are fairly represented in the privacy field, hold similar positions within their organizations, and, at least in the United States, receive comparable pay. Even if the statistic shows we are only approximating equality that is still good news!
To further promote positive changes, our virtual KnowledgeNet will feature a discussion with female privacy professionals who will share their career experiences. They will take us on a journey where discrimination has played or continues to play a significant role and inspire us by sharing how they have managed to succeed despite the challenges they faced.
Lastly, we want to emphasize that as equality doesn’t come in black or white and the last thing we want is to host the webinar as a female-only event. On the contrary, we would like to invite all interested individuals to join the discussion, hopefully contributing towards building a more inclusive and equitable society!
